Asking "how did you hear about us?" at checkout does two things you don't want: it drops one more field between a shopper and their first order, and the people who bother to answer are often the ones who never buy. So now you can move that question off checkout entirely and ask it right after someone signs up, in a small popup on their account page, when they're a real paying customer and the reason they joined is still fresh.

Everything lives on one page now, under Settings → How Did You Hear?. You pick when to ask (at checkout like always, after signup instead, or both), manage the answer options, and set up follow-up questions, all in the same place.

The follow-ups are the good part. When a customer picks a channel you can ask a second question to get the detail that matters. Someone picks Podcast, they get asked which podcast, from choices you set. Instead of a bucket that just says "Podcast," you find out it's the one you sponsored last month.

And it ties back to money. The How Did You Hear revenue report now has a lifetime-value-by-channel table, so you can see which sources bring the customers who actually stick around and spend, not just the most signups.
Two things worth knowing: it only asks customers who join after you turn it on, so your existing folks are left alone, and it never nags, one ask and it's done.
